The ACCH Medical Science Course
Anatomy and Physiology

The ACCH Medical Science course is an integral part of the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy, and the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills. The ACCH Medical Science course is based upon NZQA Core Health unit standards. The body systems are taught in modules, which includes Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology, and where relevant current allopathic treatments are discussed.  A homeopathic approach to the treatment of disease is also incorporated into the course structure.

Qualification Specifics:
Modular based course consisting of 14 separate modules of Anatomy and Physiology. All 14 modules are designed to be completed within a two year period, and must be completed by the end of your fourth year of study in order to graduate with The ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy.

Prescription:
The ACCH Medical Science course consists of learning about the human body and disease processes.
The Medical Science course is a compulsory component of the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy. The aim of the course is to enable students to graduate from the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy not only with an in-depth knowledge of homeopathic methodology and practice, but also a comprehensive knowledge of human body systems to incorporate into homeopathic practice.

Levels 3-6
95 credits

Enrolment Criteria:
Enrolment into the ACCH Medical Science course:
1. Current or previous student of any other ACCH homeopathy course
2. Current or previous student of a comparative qualification.
3. New student with an interest in learning medical sciences in relation to natural health studies.

Delivery Method:
1. Open to students wishing to study by our Distance and Flexible Learning study option.
2. Open to attendance on campus.

Lectures are held in addition to the regular classes assigned for the homeopathy components of the course. The Medical Science course runs over two years on a module basis, and is taught either via class lectures or via distance DVD format.

Rationale and pathways:
The ACCH Medical Science course serves as an integral part of all homeopathy courses. Graduation from the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy is subject to completion of all Medical Science modules. Completion of the ACCH Medical Science course also provides entry opportunities to many other fields of study in health.

Modules of Learning include:

Anatomy:
The location and structure of the human body components are studied.

Physiology:

The structure of the body as it relates to function and maintenance of homeostasis are studied.

Pathology:

Diseases and disorders that pathologically affect the human body are studied in relation to allopathic treatments and investigations. Where applicable, homeopathy is considered.

Examination techniques: 

Simple procedures to assist in homeopathic practice are taught. For example, taking pulse and/or blood pressure.

Terminology:
Common medical terminology is covered within the structure of the course.

Pharmacology:
Allopathic medicines are discussed in relation to the body systems that are being taught. This includes common drugs, their dosage, known side effects, and any relevant information considered necessary in the usage of the drugs covered.
