 Essence � The ACCH Certificate in Acute Prescribing 

Standing alone as a certificated course, ESSENCE is the foundation year for the four-year ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy. Learning how to use homeopathy for simple acute conditions, the course is grounded in classical homeopathic modules of learning, as outlined below.

 Qualification Specifics:
Locally approved Qualification with the New Zealand Qualification Authority. Students who successfully complete the year will be awarded the ACCH Certificate of Acute Prescribing. This course also constitutes the first year of the four year ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy qualification, which focuses the student on developing the skills to become a homeopathic health practitioner.

 

Prescription:
Essence is designed to equip the student with the theoretical and practical skills to effectively prescribe homeopathy in acute, or first aid, situations. The certificate course also provides the student with a solid foundation from which to build any future training in homeopathy.

NZQA Level and Credits:
Level 5
Students who successfully complete the year will be awarded the ACCH Certificate in Acute Prescribing.

Enrolment Criteria:
The entry criteria to this course is open, however the student will need to be able to demonstrate a good general standard of education  and/or have good numeric and literary skills in order to successfully complete the course. A copy of the applying student�s CV is necessary, early in the enrolment process.
International students will also need to provide copy of English language competency via a recognized testing system such as IELTS or TOFEL. (Further information)

1. Open to students wishing to study by Distance and Flexible Learning study option.
2. Open to attendance on campus. 2007/2008 course dates.  

Rationale and pathways:
The ACCH Certificate of Acute Prescribing serves as a pathway to gaining The ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy, a necessary qualification for students planning to work as a homeopath in practice. This qualification incorporates a further three years of study.

Modules of Learning include:
Philosophy:
o Learning about the history and development of homeopathy, including its founding principles and laws.
o Studying the concepts of health and disease; acute and chronic disease.
o Studying both conventional and modern homeopathic philosophies. The works of early homeopaths, including Hahnemann, Kent, Hering, Boericke, Nashe and Von Boennignhausen, are discussed alongside those of modern homeopaths like Sankaran and Vithoulkas.
o Investigating a wide variety of methods of prescribing remedies, from traditional to contemporary.

Repertory:
o Understanding how to use the repertory, one of the homeopath�s tools of trade. Repertories studied include Kent, Boericke and Murphy.
o Applying repertory skills in acute cases.

Acute Case-Taking, Analysis and Management:
o Developing the skills required to gather information relative to an acute case.
o Analysing and evaluating case information in order to identify and prescribe the appropriate remedy.
o Managing a case after a remedy has been given.
o Maintaining professional standards in acute case-taking.
o Learning how to successfully manage a follow-up consultation in an acute case.

Homeopathic Pharmacy:
o Studying the manufacture of homeopathic remedies. Learning about correct handling and storage of homeopathic remedies.

Materia Medica:
o Producing a valuable folio of 41 major remedies, used largely in acute conditions.

Therapeutics:
o Studying a selection of common acute illnesses.
o Investigating appropriate homeopathic solutions to these illnesses.
o Learning to differentiate between similar remedies in the search for the simillimum or most appropriate remedy.
o Learning how to select the correct remedy in a variety of acute conditions.
