  ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills

The ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills aims to provide the student with a solid foundation from which to build future Health training, and to provide the student with a robust basic knowledge of the role of homeopathy in the conventional health field. A strong focus on Anatomy and Physiology is also a part of this course, providing a step towards bridging the current gap between conventional medicine and homeopathy in New Zealand.

Qualification Specifics:
Locally approved Qualification with the New Zealand Qualification Authority. Students who successfully complete the year will be awarded the ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills. This course also constitutes the first year of the four year ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy qualification, which focuses the student on developing the skills to become a homeopathic health practitioner. Graduates of the one year Foundations Diploma are not qualified to enter professional practise, but will have preference in course placement if continuing into Year Two of the Diploma.

Prescription:
The One Year ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills is designed to give students a sound comprehension of acute homeopathic case taking, case analysis and prescribing; a thorough knowledge of traditional and modern homeopathic philosophy, history and theory; and in-depth study of frequently used homeopathic remedies. Anatomy and physiology is included and integrated with homeopathic therapeutics.

Enrolment Criteria:
The entry criteria to this course is open, however the student will need to be able to demonstrate a good general standard of education  and/or have good numeric and literary skills in order to successfully complete the course. A copy of the applying student�s CV is necessary, early in the enrolment process.
International students will also need to provide copy of English language competency via a recognized testing system such as IELTS or TOFEL. Further information is available at Information for International Students

Rationale and pathways:
The ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy Foundation Skills serves as a pathway to gaining The ACCH Diploma in Homeopathy, a necessary qualification for students planning to work as a homeopath in practice. This qualification incorporates a further three years of study.

Modules of Learning include:
Philosophy
o Learning about the history and development of homeopathy, including its founding principles and laws.
o Studying the concepts of health and disease; acute and chronic disease.
o Studying both conventional and modern homeopathic philosophies. The works of early homeopaths, including Hahnemann, Kent, Hering, Boericke, Nash and von Boenninghausen, are discussed alongside those of modern homeopaths like Sankaran and Vithoulkas.
o Investigating a wide variety of methods of prescribing remedies, from traditional to contemporary.

Repertory
o Understanding how to use the repertory, one of the homeopath�s tools of trade. Repertories studied include Kent, Boericke and Murphy.
o Applying repertory skills in acute cases

Acute Case-Taking, Analysis and Management
o Developing the skills required to gather information relative to an acute case.
o Analysing and evaluating case information in order to identify and prescribe the appropriate remedy.
o Managing a case after a remedy has been given.
o Maintaining professional standards in acute case-taking.
o Learning how to successfully manage a follow up consultation in an acute case.

Homeopathic Pharmacy
o Studying the manufacture of homeopathic remedies.
o Learning about correct handling and storage of homeopathic remedies.

Materia Medica
o Producing a valuable folio of 41 major remedies, used largely in acute conditions.

Therapeutics
o Studying a selection of common acute illnesses. Investigating appropriate homeopathic solutions to these illnesses.
o Learning to differentiate between similar remedies in the search for the simillimum or most appropriate remedy.
o Learning how to select the correct remedy in a variety of acute conditions.
